How To Define Energy Drains

Everything we do takes energy. Some more than others, but no one looks at how some things and activities can have different outcomes depending on other factors. Nothing happens in a vacuum. And there have been things that I thought I hated doing but ones I changed a factor or two I actually enjoyed them.

Is it the person or the topic

Do you usually do something that is draining with the same person or the same kind of person? you never liked going out for coffee, but you always did it with co-workers. But all they do is complain. Maybe you thought you hated weddings but it’s always been your family and someone always starts some drama.

The time of day

We all have our own energy cycles. I get a little tired in the early afternoon. So if people want to be around me then, then I need some snacks to keep me awake and nice. I know some people who HATE mornings. So even if we are doing things in the morning I do not ask complex questions. And give them plenty of time to finish waking up. Maybe get the caffeine kicking in.

For my business, I never do meetings any time after 4 pm. I am just done for the day and want to talk less then. Doesn’t matter if I barely talked to anyone throughout the day. I’m on auto for a bit until dinner.

Certain things a more draining with other stuff

Maybe you don’t mind touristy places, but you don’t want to have to interact with people. I can hit museums and parks one after the other. Wait in long lines and crowds. As long as I don’t have to spend most of the day talking to people too. Or maybe you can do team-building activities at work, but not if you had to spend hours on meetings before.
