Be OK With Sucking In The Beginning

As a child, everything is new. We are constantly learning new things. Learning to walk, talk, and just being social. We stumbled and fell all the time. But as we got older, it got harder to do. People made fun of us or criticized what we did. So it got harder for us to even want to try as an adult. Which sucks because we should still be trying new things. Finally being old enough, big enough, have the actual freedom, or the money to try the things we’ve always wanted to do.

We need to remember what it was like to be younger and the fun and discovery in trying new things. That feeling over time of getting better at it. That there is more ease and fewer mistakes. Just the thrill in trying things that are out of the norm.

People get so scared about failing in any way. Whether it’s your own idea of perfection or that others never let you forget the mistakes you’ve ever made. Whether or not they were actually mistakes or if they really make any difference to anyone. Most mistakes we’ve all made actually did not hurt or made life harder for yourself or others. It actually didn’t do anything in the large scheme of things.

But we put it so much bigger in our heads that it seems so much worse. We need to allow ourselves to actually try new things as adults. We get so used to being good at things by the time we get out of school that it gets harder to not look like we can’t do things.

Other good reasons to do this:

  • Exercise the brain and improve function

  • Rember that it will get better and easy

  • New things are fun
