"Phubbing" Blind Spot

Phubbing is a somewhat new term which is a combination if ‘phone’ and ‘snubbing’. Meaning you are snubbing a person who is right in front of you to look at your phone. Which is a problem for us with everything you can do on your phone. Social media sites work on getting you one their apps and keeping you there.

It makes face-to-face less connected

We spend less time looking at people’s faces. We do not see the changing of expressions. We miss when something is wrong and do nothing to fix it.

It hurts our mental health

It are not in the conversation. Which makes others feel excluded and ostracized, hurting their mental health. We don’t think we are as close to people, or even see them as full friends because they are always on something else. People are prioritizing something else instead of you.

Always distracted

We feel less satisfied while eating because we hardly taste what it is we eat. This can actually hurt your reputation with friends, family, and at work because you will not give anyone your attention.

How to stop

  • put it away ( which can be easier said than done)

    • have everyone put their phones away or on the table so no one can sneak a look

  • take a social media detox, preferably a full day to not look at your phone
