Dispositional Autonomy

Dispositional Autonomy determines how you feel about solitude and what you end up getting from it. So for us introverts this determines how well we take the solitude we actually need. Because this can be something we are taught. If we are forced into it then we can get less from it.

Autonomous personalities feel that they have chosen it, instead of seeing themselves being forced into that environment. It’s the difference between being forced into solitary confinement and choosing a vacation to a secluded cabin alone.

It can be why when at work, you are forced to do work by yourself and you hate it. You were not given a choice, even though it should have been given. Everyone else gets to be around each other and have the comradery, but because they think you are anti-social, you don’t want to talk to anyone ever.

For myself, when I bought a house, I love the area. The house had great space inside and out. I had a pond across the street that I could look out at from my office and living room. All that was great, but I was so far away from all my friends and family that it was hard sometimes to do things with them. It created a barrier some of the time.
