Security vs Freedom

Security vs Freedom

Two big things to keep in mind when deciding and planning for something in your life are what is more important, security or freedom. Some people want more security in their life. They want to make sure they know they have a paycheck week to week because they want more things taken care of the other end. Others want a little more freedom. Maybe have a job but that has many different areas to transfer to.

For me personally, freedom is the biggest thing I want in life. So I will push more for that in the expense of security. To get it some having a bunch of side hustles for years to live off of had very low security because a lot of those side hustles were seasonal. I had the security sometimes of having a part-time job with a different company. But that wasn't a huge factor for me was the freedom part or some people, the security part is more, more important.

Security for some is also convenience. They can get all the different insurances through their job, discounts on memberships, etc. Many of the things people can want can be bundled together for them.

Security gives you bundles while freedom gives you variety.

I like variety in my life. I like to know that I have that much more control over things. And yes, if I have my own business and I have customers and clients, they do dictate a bit more of what I do with my life or do with my time. But there's my say on what hours I work what days I do or do not work. That is my freedom. For some people, they love having the security that their off time will always be their off time, that once they have their nine to five, the moment they clock out everything when work is done, they leave it all there, go home, do what they want to do.

You need to know what you want in your life; how much freedom to security because they're not mutually exclusive. You can have a lot of freedom and still some security. It just sometimes you have to trade it off at certain points in your life or in the journey.

I know for some people the idea of getting that freedom, they always feel like they have to get rid of all the security. And that's not even close to the truth. You need to know what your aversion is to it. What your drive is to have Either one, and each one will be different in every situation.
