Feelings I want to Live by

Is everyone else tired of to-do lists? Cause I always feel like I’m running in circles half the time. And the satisfaction of checking them off is short lived. So I went searching for a different way. So I ditched my to-do list (only kind of kidding) and made a to-feel list.

Now, the first thing I always do is go back to all my favorite self help / inspiration books. All of them are full of tabs and sticky notes. But I already knew I needed to look through The Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte. Cause I knew that I didn’t want to keep chasing just goals. I wanted to feel a certain way about life. Have more specific emotions to live by.

I want you to work on this with me. How do you want to feel in you life? What are some of the overarching ways you want to live your life? Pick a few.

My list goes like this:

  • Courageous
  • Creative
  • Free
  • Adventurous
  • Loved


Now that you have that, what can you do to feel that way?

Think specifics. For me, courageous is trying new things. Going to a business meet-up by myself. Trying aerial classes. Driving four hours away for a photography weekend. Hell, some of those lead in to wanting to be more adventurous.

Take a page for each feeling you want and brainstorm specific idea and activities that you actual want to try. Doesn’t matter if its something for next weekend or the next 10 years. Always keeping in mind what feeling you want from it.


Here are some of the things I’m trying, to see if I get any of those feelings.

  • Pick up my photography again. But not just macro and wildlife. I am exploring and experimenting with Branded Lifestyle and Product photography. (Courageous and Creative)
  • I have been taking classes and workshops for aerial and I am loving it. The community I get from it has been awesome. (Adventurous and Loved)
  • Design and sell apparel. Its been great to create something that you can’t find in stores and that others have been looking for too. (Creative and Free)
